National FT Cocoa Valentine's Day Action

| Nearly 2,000 children will be learning about child labor problems in the cocoa industry, and how Fair Trade cocoa provides a solution, in the National Valentine's Day of Action organized by Global Exchange. Originally titled "500 for Fair Trade", aiming to educate 500 elementary school children in a single day, the action is a runaway hit. Elementary school teachers in 27 states nationwide will be teaching Global Exchange's Fair Trade cocoa curriculum. |

Automakers lawsuit is dismissed

| A California judge dismissed the automaker's lawsuit against the state's Pavley law. The Pavley law regulates tailpipe emissions at 22 percent fewer greenhouse gases by 2012 and 30 percent fewer by 2016. This legislation far surpasses the federal law, and paves the way for over a dozen other states that have similar laws that have been watching this decision closely. It's a huge step to clean petro-free cars, and a giant wake up call to the auto industry! |

| OAKLAND, California, Nov 7 (IPS) - The eight-member city council of Oakland, home to nearly half a million people, unanimously passed a symbolic resolution opposing any U.S. attack against Iran Tuesday, in a bid to pressure lawmakers in Congress to reestablish their constitutional authority over U.S foreign policy and war policy and funding. |
