In a ruling that shocked human rights and environmental justice advocates the world over, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan granted Chevron an injunction on Monday preventing native Ecuadoreans from collecting $18.2 billion for oil contamination caused by the company in the Amazon. This past May Luke Metzger, Director of Environment Texas, outlined in the Energy Program’s 2010 True Cost of Chevron Alternative Annual Report the lawsuit his organization initiated against Chevron for its repeated violations of the Clear Air Act.
