Dear Don,
Sorry for the delayed response, but I think the best place to go to answer your excellent question is from the mouths of the founders themselves. Madison took nearly verbatim notes during the closed door convention, where the Constitution was drafted. its over 700 pages long, and was not released until all the authors were dead, because it very clearly and openly discusses their desire to create a Constitution that would protect larger property and commerce, rather than rights and liberty. There are many good other sources for this, as well. I also suggest reading some of the anti-federalists papers written at the time of ratification, which also talks about the "compromise"of the Bill of Rights (which is very different than the Constitution). Happy to talk more about this, email me anytime and thanks for reading and writing a response!

I'm leading a Community Rights group in Vancouver Washington. You claim the constitution was designed from the beginning to provide a government of and by the 1%.
It is true that only white male property owners were allowed to vote at the time, but the constitution doesn't specify that and by 1839, the requirement for property ownership in order to vote, was gone.
I recognize that the founders didn't want the rabble to vote, but the constitution doesn't say that.
The founders did not include a Bill of Rights because that was left to the states and the states already had enumerated civil rights.
I'm not convinced the constitution was designed to be for the 1%. What am I missing?
