Global Exchange is a membership-based international human rights organization dedicated to promoting social, economic, and environmentsl justice around the world.

In our recent report: “Meet the F.I.R.E. Sector: How Wall Street is Burning Democracy,” Global Exchange examined Senate and House voting records for seven bills for which Wall Street put in a significant lobby in order to influence Congressional votes. Based on how often legislators’ votes matched the Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate sector’s lobby positions, we were able to calculate an “industry loyalty rate” for each Senator and Representative.

So… what do you think Paul Ryan’s industry loyalty rate was in our Legislative Scorecard?

Maybe you guessed it: 100%!

That means on the bailout, Wall Street reform, free trade agreements, credit card regulation, and health care, Paul Ryan’s votes matched Wall Street’s lobbying position 100% of the time. Wow.

According to data from MapLight and Center for Responsive Politics, Paul Ryan also accepted over $3.2 million in campaign contributions from the Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate sector for his Congressional races, a number that is now likely to go up- way up.

  • No shocker here. This is a briliant, useful political/educational tool. I highly recommend that you make the information/data in the PDF accessible online so that users can interact with data (e.g. search, click on column to sort by $ donated). This would also allow expansion of columns to include more key votes, and increase alternative ways of presenting the data (e.g. dividing Total Fire $/session would facilitate comparisons).
