We called this rally TPPxBorder: The People’s Round. What I loved about it wasn’t only the fiery speakers, the diversity, the music, the unity, the hot Fair Trade coffee, and the ultra-legitimacy of our opposition to this heinous version of the TPP…. what I loved was learning about what an alternative deal would look like – one by and for the people. Listening to speakers and experts articulately describe what fair trade looks like, what it offers communities internationally, reminds me why these fights are so important, and the promise of real, practical, and respectful trade solutions. We have answers- now is the time to join hands and fight for them.

This December, set up a quick meeting with your new or incumbent Congressperson and ask them some key questions about lobbyists and campaign contributors. It only takes a few hours to make a huge difference by letting your representatives know they aren’t off the hook now that the election is over.

What does Susan B. Anthony have in common with voters in Montana, Ohio and Pennsylvania? What you probably missed in the glare of the pundits flashy graphics and Wed-morning quarterbacking were the real victories by and for people actually asserting their rights on Election Day. And regardless of political affiliation; against the dollars and scare tactics of huge corporations; sometimes against their own elected officials; AND against the mighty Robed Nine of the Supreme Court—they WON.
