What is the National Valentine's Day of Action? We are inviting K-6 teachers to teach Global Exchange's Fair Trade cocoa curriculum.
Last year we educated 2,000 kids on the National Valentine's Day of Action. This year, our goal is to educate at least 3,000 children about Fair Trade , and help hundreds of thousands of kids in cocoa farming communities!
What you can do:
Please take action by contacting at least five teachers today!!!
Now is the time to call and email! Teachers plan their schedule several weeks in advance!
Copy, paste, and forward the email text below to all the K-6 teachers and school administrators you know to ask them to teach the Fair Trade cocoa curriculum anytime between January 2 and Valentine's Day, 2009. (Feel free to contact both public and private schools and other classroom programs for elementary school kids, such as "Sunday school"-type programs, youth group leaders, etc.) Call or email K-6 teachers at the schools in your local area and ask them to teach the curriculum. Print and copy this handy letter or flyer and distribute it to all the educators at your school, congregation, youth group, etc.
You could win a FAIR TRADE PRIZE! When teachers download the curriculum, they can enter your name into a drawing for a package of great Fair Trade gift worth over $40.

National Valentine's Day of Action: 3,000 for Fair Trade!!!
Join K-6 educators nationwide teaching Global Exchange's fun, interdisciplinary Fair Trade Cocoa curriculum between New Year's and Valentine's Day!
Together, we can teach 3,000 children about Fair Trade on a single day!
Plus, one lucky participating teacher will win a Fair Trade gift worth $75!!!
Why participate???
1. Cover teaching standards using a subject kids love...chocolate! 2. Kids learn about how they can personally make a difference in the world, and can influence social justice issues affecting their peers overseas through the products they buy, often starting them on a lifetime of socially and environmentally conscious consumerism. 3. Teachers who teach the curriculum on the National Valentine's Day of Action will be entered into a prize drawing to win over $75 worth of Fair Trade chocolate and educational materials!
Download the curriculum at www.globalexchange.org/cocoa, and don't forget to include the email address of the person who referred you, so they might win, too!
You can also win by referring other teachers!!! Forward this email to other teachers. We will enter your name into a prize drawing for Fair Trade gifts worth over $40 for every teacher you refer who downloads the curriculum by February 13. When teachers download the curriculum, they will have the opportunity to provide the name and email of the person who referred them, which will enter you into the prize drawing.
To let us know you will be part of the 3,000 for Fair Trade National Valentine's Day of Action, send an email with "National Day of Action participant" in the subject line to fairtrade@globalexchange.org telling us that you have reviewed the curriculum and you plan to teach the curriculum sometime between January 2 and Valentine's Day 2009. When we receive your email, your name will be entered into the drawing. We will verify winning entries.
Include in the body of your email: · Your name · School name · Mailing address (please indicate whether it is your mailing address or the school's) · Phone · Number of children in your classroom · Grade level · Dates that you plan to teach the curriculum
Are you a teacher who teaches the curriculum or plans to teach the curriculum, but will not be teaching the curriculum this Valentine's Day? Please drop us a line to let us know at fairtrade@globalexchange.org. We are collecting the contact info of all the teachers who teach the curriculum, so that we can keep you updated on new materials, resources, and programs related to the curriculum and Fair Trade cocoa.
