Though we're not as active as we once were on coffee and chocolate, we are still involved, providing materials to people organizing in faith-based and other organizations, and we're talking about getting a FT chocolate and/or banana outreach campaign going.

MEXICAN FAIR TRADE FARMER COMES TO PUGET SOUND

A leader of Mexico's Fair Trade movement, Javier Cabadilla, is coming to the Puget Sound region April 25-28, to increase awareness about sustainable coffee -- coffee that is Fair Trade Certified, organic, and shade-grown.

Cabadilla is a member of the Union of Indigenous Communities of the Isthmus Region (UCIRI), a farmers' cooperative in Oaxaca, Mexico. He will meet with student and community groups from Tacoma to Bellingham to discuss how Fair Trade Certified, shade-grown, organic coffee is helping build stronger communities and healthier ecosystems around the world. The week's events will culminate Saturday, April 28, with a kickoff celebration of the Seattle Sustainable Coffee Campaign.

The Seattle Sustainable Coffee Campaign kicks into gear on Sat. April 28., with live music, free coffee samples, and engaging presentations by a Mexican Fair Trade coffee farmer and other non-profit groups. Javier Cabadilla's talk will be complemented by musical performances by Danny O'Keefe, Jackie Larráinzar, Vira Lata, and other musicians, and information about organic, Fair Trade, and shade-grown coffee. Co-sponsored by the Northwest Shade Coffee Campaign, TransFair USA and Songbird Foundation.
