Notes from previous coordinator:
April 12, 2004
I am very excited about the Fair Trade Campaign and our parish has sold Fair Trade Chocolate on 4 separate occasions and in the past we lobbied to local stores and resaurants to sell fair trade coffee: one of the cofffee shops is now brewing ONLY Fair Trade coffee.
I, however, am moving to Minnesota in a few months. So, for future fair trade action in our parish, it would be best to contact Melanie Bailey.

The Social Justice committee at St. Ignatius parish in San Francisco has been working on Fair Trade for the past year. We started campaigning in the summer of 2000 by putting out letters to local cafes and retailers in their area, and by doing follow up calls and visits with some of these. Fair Trade Coffee was also promoted within the parish, is being bought for parish offices and functions, and is available for sale in our parish bookstore.
During the summer of 2001, St. Ignatius decided to reconvene their efforts in working towards Fair Trade. We discussed the campaign at a recent Social Justice Committee meeting, and since that time new literature has been created and distributed.
We have also educated parishioners about the fair trade model through a parish presentation and film with Deborah James from Global Exchange and Deborah Hirsh from TransFair USA, and published an article about fair trade coffee in our parish newsletter.
