Whitman is currently serving Starbuck's Fair Trade regular coffee and non-FT decaf everywhere on campus except for the cafe where they serve Montana Coffee Traders FT. I am in the process of laminating permanent info signs that will be posted by all coffee dispensers. I am also going to do an educational event with the Santiago video and see if i can interest some Whitman students in maybe doing some tablings downtown at a cafe where Blue Mtn. FT coffee is served and Starbucks as well.
What I am really interested in knowing is how to go about getting Starbucks to create a decaf FT coffee. Do you all at Global Exchange have any news or ideas about this? This seems like the next big step for Starbucks, no? And is Starbucks going to start serving FT by the cup anytime soon? All in all, does it seem that Starbucks is actually pulling through and being supportive of FT? Is volume increasing? Well, I'd love to know about all this if you've got any information!!!!!!

The cafe in our Student Union Building just started serving some Montana Coffee Traders' Fair Trade coffees in addition to the non-FT ones.
Out of the blue, I just got news yesterday that the first batch of Starbucks FT coffee arrived and will be brewing up in all of Whitman College's dining services, cafes, etc... (now we need to get Starbucks to do a decaf, eh?) It seems that they finally came through! I feel like our dining service guy has had a lot of trouble getting good information from Starbucks on this. Perhaps this is slowly improving...
I didn't need to do any campus organizing to get the dining service to order FT, so after the winter break, I am planning on doing some educational events and making sure there is good information hung up at.
I'm very interested in knowing about the prevalence of FT at other schools, especially in the Northwest. Also, I have a video from TransFair that I am happy to lend out to other activists at schools, etc... If you have any of this info. for me that would be great! I am also planning on talking with someone from Oxfam next week to see how things are going.
