Our Hemisphere Is Not For Sale! 3rd International Meeting of Struggle Against the FTAA
Free Trade's newest poster child, the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), threatens our environment, workers and indigenous rights, women in particular, hemispheric security, and the possibility of democracy in the Americas. Join us in Cuba as we work to stop this agreement, and work for more human-based policies.
The Cuban-hosted FTAA gathering will bring delegates together with over 1,000 leaders from throughout the hemisphere. From Ecuadorian Indigenous leaders, Bolivian campesinos, and Mexican academics to Nicaraguan unionists and Venezuelan students, delegates will hear from a wide variety of activists, all working toward a common goal: Stop the FTAA and build a different world.
While in Havana, we will also explore Cuba as a country living in resistance to neo-liberal policies of the US and integrating itself into the global system. Meet with grassroots leaders, Cuban and US government representatives, and community members to explore the consequences of Cuba's forced exclusion from this proposed trading block. Strategize to help stop the FTAA, starting with resistance in your own community.
Cost: $1050 plus airfare. Includes all meals, accommodations, facilitation, translation, and transportation in Cuba, as well as all conference costs for the hemisphere-wide FTAA gathering. The fee also covers extensive activist tools. Fundraising support is available.
