WAL-MART

Leading the race to the bottom

From unfair labor practices to the closing of local businesses these are reasons why people—from small business owners and women's rights groups to environmentalists and labor unions —are all learning ways to stand up to Wal-Mart and why you should take action against WalMart:

HEALTH CARE

Wal-Mart fails to provide health insurance to over half of their employees. So who picks up the bill? -- You do. Wal-Mart workers are atop the Medicaid rolls in at least 16 states, costing taxpayers billions every year.

End the Wal-Mart Tax! Demand that Wal-Mart provide affordable healthcare for all of its employees. Pledge to support actions by your local officials to end Wal-Mart's abuse of our public healthcare systems.

FAIR LABOR PRACTICES

Wal-Mart has a long and sad track record of worker abuse. From forced overtime to illegal child labor to relentless union-busting. Currently, Wal-Mart is the subject of the largest class action discrimination lawsuit in history, including over 1.5 million current and former female employees who were paid and promoted at significantly lower rates than their male co-workers.

Don't tolerate employee abuse and discrimination at America's largest employer. Demand that Wal-Mart stop discriminating against its employees and come clean on workers' rights violations.

YET THE CEO BENEFITS

While Wal-Mart contiues to lower wages and avoids paying health insurance to over half its employees, CEO H. Lee Scott does not appear to be suffering. Last year he made $5.37 million in salary alone, 50,000 times his Chinese workers pay!

Check out this staggering article about the Wal-Mart global pay gap!

PROTECTING YOUR LOCAL ECONOMY

Wal-Mart plans to nearly double its retail outlets by 2010 and will stop at nothing to steamroll their way into every town. For every new Supercenter that Wal-Mart opens, at least two local supermarkets and countless small businesses will close. How will this affect your hometown? This many Wal-Marts come at a high cost.

Stand up for American entrepreneurs and your hometown businesses. Pledge to support local businesses and your local government's efforts to curb Wal-Mart's predatory growth.

You can also order a DVD of the new Robert Greenwald film WAL-MART: The High Cost of Low Price and host a screening at your house or in your community!
