Tanzania, known for its natural wonders from Mt. Kilimanjaro to the Serengeti, is one of the most unique countries in Africa because of both its post-colonial socialist background and its relative stability in an unstable region. You will experience the beautiful sense of pride and nationalistic identity that exists even under the pressure of poverty, unemployment, forced debt, and the conflict of corporate globalizing.
You will learn and hear from community groups in and around Arusha (Zanzibar as well) about people's aspirations for the future. Part of this delegation will also visit their grassroots development projects to understand Tanzanian community initiatives. Meeting children and listening to their stories, you will be touched by their experiences. You will learn to examine conventional and alternative models of the tourist industry that are so important to the country's economy. You will travel to Tanzania's Ngorongoro Crater to experience the amazing beauty of the wildlife there, and on your safari you will speak with community leaders and park officials about their conservations efforts. This program is a socially responsible eco-adventure unique in design.
