Since 1989, Global Exchange has played a leading role in the effort to normalize relations with Cuba, our Caribbean neighbor. Our primary goals are:
End the U.S. Embargo of Cuba
End Travel Restrictions between the U.S. and Cuba
Get Cuba removed from the U.S. list of potential terrorist countries
Support and learn from Cuba's struggles and successes in achieving Sustainable Development!
End the Travel Restrictions Global Exchange has been in the forefront of efforts to end the cruel and unconstitutional restrictions on travel between the U.S. and Cuba. We were the primary force behind the "Freedom to Travel" Campaign of the 1990's.
Global Exchange has arranged travel to Cuba for tens of thousands of U.S. citizens over the last 20 years, on Reality Tours, focused on every aspect of Cuban life.
Global Exchange joins forces with other U.S.-Cuba organizations in educating the U.S. government and attempting to persuade Congress and successive U.S. Administrations about the need to end the restrictions on travel between the U.S. and Cuba; these restrictions are a violation of our constitutional rights.

Global Exchange's 20 Years of Support for Cuba
Global Exchange's grassroots education programs, Reality Tours, publications, speaking tours, and campaigns have informed the debate about US-Cuba relations for the last twenty years.
Global Exchange has supported humanitarian aid to Cuba through its Campaign to End the Embargo on Food and Medicines and the Soy Cubano Campaign; has supported cultural exchange through its promotion of the U.S. tour of La Colmenita, a Cuban children's theatre group; has supported interchange between Cubans and U.S. citizens in every field of human endeavor through its Reality Tours, Cuban Rhythms and Dance program, and Spanish Language Study in Cuba programs.
Eco Cuba Exchange
Global Exchange's development partnerships with communities in Cuba have assisted ordinary Cubans in their struggle to survive these difficult times.
Now, it seems, in 2009, dealing with our own economic and environmental crises, we in the U.S. might be looking to Cuba for a model of how to live simply, humanely and sustainably on this earth. Cuba has already survived a period of what we might call today "Peak Oil."
In the early 1990's Cubans were forced to make a dramatic conversion from a petroleum-based economy to an economy largely based on organic agriculture, renewable energy, and healthy lifestyle. Cuba has received many international awards for its successes in achieving a sustainable lifestyle.
