Cuba Campaigns

Promoting our Right to Normal Human Relations with our Cuban Neighbors

Cuban schoolchildren say, "Bienvenidos! Come on down!"

Global Exchange has worked tirelessly over a twenty year period to end the U.S. Embargo of Cuba. We have focused on many different aspects of the embargo: travel, food and medicine, people to people communication, and professional interchange in various fields.

Our primary areas of focus in 2009 are:
  • The rights of environmentalists (both professional and grassroots) to interact with their Cuban colleagues in the interest of our mutual environmental health and sustainable development in this hemisphere

  • The rights of all U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba, especially to engage in educational and socially responsible interchange, without the onerous bureaucratic intervention of the U.S. government

Eco Cuba Exchange

In its 2006 Sustainability Index Report, the World Wildlife Fund, utilizing a combination of the United Nations Human Development Index (how well a nation is meeting its nutrition, water, health care, and education needs, etc.) and the Ecological Footprint (natural resource use per capita) determined that there is only one nation in the world that is currently living sustainably – and that nation is CUBA.

How did Cuba, a small island nation of 11,000,000 people, struggling with issues of poverty, the U.S. embargo, and devastating annual hurricanes, achieve this extraordinary distinction? And what can environmentalists in the U.S. learn from Cuba’s struggles and successes? read more.

Freedom to Travel Campaign

The Freedom to Travel Campaign demands the restoration of the right of U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba.

We work with other civil liberties, human rights, humanitarian, educational and internationalist organizations throughout the U.S. to promote the constitutional right to travel to Cuba. We welcome all individuals and organizations to join us in promoting our right to travel to Cuba to visit and communicate with our Cuban neighbors.

  • Explore the many faces of Cuba on one of our Global Exchange Reality Tours, which focus on diverse themes from a broad overview of life in Cuba today: Afro-Cuban Culture, Education and Health Care, Alternative and Traditional Medicine, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Agriculture, Urban Development and Architecture, and Cuba's Political, Economic and Legal Systems. Learn about our island neighbor and the warmth of the Cuban people, while experiencing their dramatic history and culture as it is reflected in their daily lives.

  • Pressure Congress and the Obama Administration to end all restrictions on travel to Cuba now!

Cuba Health Exchange
Cuba Health Exchange is dedicated to creating strong links between health care professionals from both countries. Given that the development of innovative new technologies in health care is vital for both U.S. and Cuban citizens, this program aims to foster an exchange of medical ideas, knowledge and experiences. The Health Exchange will focus on: universal health care, health care facilities, infant and child health, neighborhood physician care, natural and traditional health care practices and Cuba's production of both pharmaceuticals and alternative medical treatments.
Educational Exchange
Educational Exchange creates links between academics, educators, and students of all ages and backgrounds and highlights Cuba’s achievements in education, literacy, community involvement, and academic excellence.
