Center for Defense Information (CDI)

"Founded in 1972 as an independent monitor of the military, the Center for Defense Information is a private, nongovernmental, research organization. Its directors and staff believe that strong social, economic, political, and military components and a healthy environment contribute equally to the nation's security. CDI seeks realistic and cost effective military spending without excess expenditures for weapons and policies that increase the danger of war. CDI supports adequate defense by evaluating our defense needs and how best to meet them without wasteful spending or compromising our national security."

The CDI site has a wealth of information examining the potential of a Cuban military threat to the United States. It also contains several text documents that analyze the moral implications of the U.S. embargo, its relevance in the post-Soviet era, and the possible repercussions the U.S. policy on our relations with the rest of the world.

Center for International Policy - Cuba Program

"CIP believes that the 36-year-old embargo against Cuba is a cruel and irrational policy that works against the goals it professes to achieve. Isolating Cuba only strengthens the Castroite position on the island; the U.S. will only bring an end to authoritarian rule in Cuba through a measure of political and economic engagement.

CIP Senior Fellow Wayne Smith, who served as U.S. Interests Section chief in Havana during the Carter administration, has since 1992 guided CIP efforts to broaden the American debate on Cuba."

Cuban American Alliance Education Fund

"The Cuban American Alliance Education_ Fund, Inc., (The Alliance) is a national non-profit organization that works for family reunification, educates legislators on issues affecting the welfare of Cuban Americans, and favors engagement as the best way to promote democratic values and assistance to family and friends in Cuba."

The Cuban Committee for Democracy (CCD)

"The Cuban Committee for Democracy, Inc. (CCD) is a non-profit organization of Cuban-Americans and individuals of other nationalities from all walks of life, including professionals, academics and entrepreneurs, who seek a peaceful, negotiated transition to democracy in Cuba. The CCD, founded in 1993, represents the more moderate sector of the Cuban-American community, whose voice is not otherwise represented by other existing organizations. CCD is not a political party. Rather, it seeks to fill a void and to address the misperception that the Cuban -American community is monolithic and uniformly conservative."

End the Embargo Coffee

To speak out against the U.S. embargo on Cuba, and its tragic effects on the Cuban people, we have created End the Embargo Coffee. Our aim is to raise awareness about this nearly 40 year old unjust embargo by donating 15" per pound to Global Exchange, an organization which sponsors student and cultural exchanges to Cuba and lobbies for an end to the U.S. blockade. We hope that this will foster a new understanding between our two countries and help to combat the embargo. Our commitment to a just cup demands no less.

Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs

The Pugwash workshop on Medical Research in Cuba: Strengthening International Cooperation, took place from 15-17 February 2001 in Havana, Cuba and was hosted by the Cuban Pugwash Group. The workshop began with an overview of Cuban achievements and the current state of Cuban biomedical research. Beginning in the early 1960s, biotechnology and medical research became a top priority of the Cuban government, with over one billion dollars invested in biotech R&D in the 1990s alone. Today, Cuba boasts a ratio of 1.8 scientists per 1000 inhabitants, a level comparable to the European Union (though with a far smaller GDP). Cuba also holds 400 patents in the biotech field.

U.S. Veteran's Delegations to Cuba

This site is devoted to the ongoing project of encouraging U.S. Veterans to travel to Cuba. The purpose behind these trips is to establish contact between U.S. and Cuban veterans; resist and help bring an end to the U.S. economic blockade of Cuba; deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Cuba, and learn about Cuban society and to communicate what is learned to the American people.
