Cuba Develops New Hydraulic Technology

Radio Havana Cuba
October 25, 2003
Cuba's high technical level with regard to its management of hydraulic and soil resources was acknowledged by participants at the five day Irrigation and Drainage International Congress, recently held here in Havana.

Cuba took the opportunity to show new research addressing the automatization of irrigation systems and an electrification program covering most of the plantation areas throughout the national territory.

Cuban Minister for Sugar, Ulises Rosales del Toro, asserted during the last day of sessions, that Cuba has made great efforts to increase efficiency within this important economic sector, so as to boost the production of foodstuffs while protecting the island's soil and hydraulic resources.

Thirty seven Cuban institutions, including nine from abroad attended the Irrigation and Drainage International Congress, along with specialists from 11 European, Latin and North American countries.
