Thank you for taking action to end the U.S. Embargo on Cuba. U.S. Citizens across the country got involved on this issue in 2005. More than 700 people gathered in Washington D.C. for Cuba Action Day where we lobbied hundreds of members of Congress. Not only did we show our members of Congress that we are a solid movement but also we engaged many to take a stand and get involved with the legislative process.
June 30, 2005, Congress Voted Against easing restrictions on travel to Cuba. We are now evaluating why certain members of Congress changed their vote and we are looking into who took money from the so-called "US-Cuba Democracy PAC", who caved in to pressure from the three Cuban-American reps from south Florida (the two Diaz-Balarts and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen) and Rep. Bob Menendez from NJ. All four of them lobbied members of Congress ahead of the votes, spoke to the amendments on the floor, and applied pressure on swing voters.
Check to see how your member voted and contact them to either thank them or let them know that you disagree.
