Take Action: SodaStream
So what can you do to change corporate policies? There are many different actions you can take---here are some examples:
- Use one of the many alternatives to SodaStream!
- Educate store owners, customers, and the general public about how SodaStream exploits Palestinian land, labor, and resources, is located in an illegal Israeli settlement, and that their labeling misleads consumers.
- Support the efforts of existing campaigns, like CODEPINK. You can sign CODEPINK and Global Exchange's joint petition to Bed, Bath & Beyond CEO Steven Temares protesting the stocking of SodaStream and Ahava products which are both made in illegal Israeli settlements.
-
Or…Start your own campaign! First, find out if SodaStream products are sold near you. Use tools that are already out there: The Coalition of Women for Peace has written a letter urging actions against SodaStream which can be adapted to your own needs, as can Global Exchange and CODEPINK’s joint petition mentioned above. CODEPINK has also provided chants and slogans that have been used at their protests and rallies.
- An excellent target for a campaign is Bed Bath & Beyond. See if SodaStream products are sold at a BB&B near you, and use the examples of previous campaigns to create your own action. For example, the flash mob in El Cerrito and the BDS Brides mock ceremony in LA both targeted Bed Bath & Beyond for their continued stocking of SodaStream products. Additionally, CODEPINK and Global Exchange's joint petition to Bed, Bath & Beyond CEO was delivered in 15 different stores--but there are many, many more.
