Rally: Apple Shareholding Meeting
| When: | Thursday, February 23 2012 @ 09:00 AM - - 10:30AM |
| Where: | Apple Campus, main entrance N. DeAnza Blvd & Infinite Loop Cupertino |
| Description: | Apple is getting the message that their consumers want an ethical iPhone. However, instead of making changes with their contractors, they are playing PR games with workers' lives. We think that the workers making the iPhones deserve more than an iSweatshop to work in, and now we need to show Apple our concern directly by rallying outside their shareholder meeting. Apple's new CEO Tim Cook is under pressure to make sure it goes off without a hitch. SumOfUs will be there in Cupertino at the meeting. We'll be inside asking questions about the working conditions at Foxconn and Apple's relationship with the Fair Labor Association (the industry-funded “independent agency” tasked with investigating working conditions). And, we will be outside demanding that Apple do the right thing. As the richest corporation in the world, Apple has the ability to change the manufacturing sector as much as iTunes changed music delivery. Or, they could do nothing and profit while workers die of exhaustion or preventable explosions. |
