Dr. Azmi Bishara is an Palestinian-Israeli member of the Israeli Parliament -- the Knesset. He works tirelessly for the cause of equality for Palestinians living in Israel. Currently, Palestinians-Israelis do not enjoy equal civil rights, access to education or economic opportunities, or even equal protection under the law. Dr. Bishara founded the National Democratic Assembly (NDA) a political party that works for the universal human values of democracy, freedom, social justice, human rights, and the right of a people to self-determination. Dr. Bishara works to transform Israel into "a state for all its citizens". For his work on behalf of Palestinians living in Israel and the Occupied Territories, Dr. Bishara was brought up on criminal charges that would have stripped him of his seat in Parliament and sentenced him to prison. To impartial observers, it was clear that the allegations were entirely politically motivated. He was recently exonerated of all charges by the Supreme Court of Israel. Dr. Bishara works against very difficult odds so that all citizens living in Israel can enjoy full and equal civil political, and economic rights, dignity, and peace.
