- I'm sure that you are just as concerned as I am about the killing of 18 Palestinian civilians by Israeli missiles, along with the ongoing attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip.
- I urge Congress to exert pressure on Israel to put an end to the killing of Palestinian civilians, and to hold Israel accountable for violations of US, international and human rights laws.
- I ask Congress to use any persuasive means necessary to stop the siege of the Gaza Strip -- including a stop to military aid.
- The US government continues to send weapons and military aid to Israel, despite the fact that the US Arms Export Act and the Foreign Assistance Act prohibits the sale and supply of weapons to countries that use arms to kill civilians or violate human rights.
- Within the past few months, Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip have created a humanitarian crisis of unprecedented proportions. With little to no supplies of electricity, water and food, and with hindered access to medical care the Gazan population has been subject to some of the worse forms of collective punishment.
- Throughout the crisis, there have been repeated requests by Hamas to establish a ceasefire with Israel, along with a number of attempts to create a unity government with President Mahmoud Abbas. Israel has not only escalated the level of attacks, but has vowed that the incursions will move forward as long as Hamas continues to launch Qassam rockets across the Gazan border and smuggle weapons from Egypt.
- The indiscriminate killing of Palestinian civilians and the collective punishment of the Gazan population will not bring more security to Israel, but will only destroy any possibilities for a cease-fire, let alone, a lasting peace.
