To apply for Bike-Aid, fill out the application form here, and send us the following items: - A check for $150 (before April 1st) or $200 (after) payable to Bike-Aid/ Global Exchange (this is a processing fee that also includes several support mailings and phone calls to participants before the ride)
- A completed application form, including essay questions
- A copy of your driver's license (needed for SAG insurance)
- A signed and dated policy statement and waiver form
- Proof of medical insurance (which will not expire during trip)
- A signed medical release form from a doctor
Items 5 and 6 are necessary to participate but may be sent at a later date. However, please include medical information with your initial application if possible.
As soon as we receive the above materials, we will call you to set up a phone interview. The purpose of the interview is to answer any questions you have and for us to get to know you better. Next, we will send you a confirmation letter, indicating that we have received all of your information. Applications are reviewed on a rolling admissions basis.
After we review and approve your application, we will send you a Fundraising packet, a Health, Safety and Training Packet, and information on leadership opportunities. About a month before the ride we will send out educational materials. You can expect to hear from us as we introduce you to your Group Facilitators, check in about your fundraising efforts, and keep you updated on what is going on here at Bike-Aid Headquarters.
We would like to accommodate everyone who is interested in riding Bike-Aid, but that is not always possible. In order to be sensitive to the needs and wishes of the community hosts who open their homes and hearts to Bike-Aid, we limit each route to no more than 25 riders who are committed to Bike-Aid's goals. In order to improve your likelihood of being accepted for the ride, we recommend that you fill out the application form carefully and thoughtfully, and that you return it to the Bike-Aid office promptly. The purpose of the application process is twofold; it helps us learn about you and it gets you started thinking about what is involved in the "Bike-Aid experience."
We hope that the materials in this packet have piqued your interest. We can't wait to hear from you. Please contact us if you have any questions. Call us at 415-575-5545 or 800-RIDE-808, or email us. Our office is open 9-6, M-F, Pacific Time.
Ride safe, spin fast, and may the wind be at your back!
If you decide not to ride, please pass this Information Pack along to a friend! Apply now, space is limited!
