Development Assistant
Global Exchange, a nonprofit human rights organization based in San Francisco, is seeking a Development Assistant to join our fundraising team. This is a supportive position with tremendous growth potential and progressive responsibility. The successful candidate will operate in all aspects of fundraising, including special events, grants, membership and individual giving.

The Development Assistant reports to the Development Director.

About Global Exchange Global Exchange is an international nonprofit human rights organization dedicated to promoting social, economic and environmental justice around the world. We envision a people centered globalization that values the rights of workers and the health of the planet; that prioritizes international collaboration as central to ensuring peace; and that aims to create a local, green economy designed to embrace the diversity of our communities. Our programs include Reality Tours to both U.S. and international destinations; a Fair Trade program (including several retail stores); a Public Education program producing events, such as the Green Festival, articles and publications. Our campaigns are designed to influence US policy, both corporate and governmental, around issues such as trade policy and immigration, child labor, democracy, peace, freedom from oil and the new local green economy.

Job Requirements:

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated, creative and organized; detail-oriented
  • Ability to take initiative; work independently as well as able to work as part of a team.

  • Dedicated interest in human rights and social justice work;
Responsibilities include:
  • Executing a variety of administrative tasks in a timely fashion (including filing, database entry and maintenance)
  • Assisting in the planning, organizing and running of special events
  • Create and maintain organizational systems for the department; maintaining the deparment calendar, calendar of foundation grant and report deadlines, calendar of major donor meetings, calendar of membership projects, and minutes for department meeting
  • Providing research and analysis for foundation prospecting
  • Working with program staff and grants associate to develop, proofread and process grant reports, proposals and other foundation correspondence;
  • Drafting correspondence to donors (thank you letters, boilerplate proposals,) as directed, proofread a variety of development materials
  • Coordinating Holiday correspondence process;
  • Supporting the Global Exchange Monthly Sustainer program;
  • Develop and manage rapid response system for communicating with major donors around Global Exchange news updates and similar correspondence
  • Maintaining and fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, including staff, donors and community partners
  • Drafting and maintaining policies and procedures for the department; foundation files and database
  • Assisting with major donor and membership cultivation and other fundraising activities;
  • other duties as assigned

Part-time (50%) Grants Coordinator
Global Exchange an international nonprofit human rights organization based in San Francisco, is seeking a seasoned Grants Coordinator to join our fundraising team. This position reports to the Director of Development and is supported by the Development Assistant.

Grants Coordinator: Requirements and Responsibilities

Requirements: The successful candidate must have 2+ years of experience managing all aspects of foundation giving and have a broad understanding of political economic human rights issues and corporate-led globalization. The successful candidate will be motivated, creative, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. We are looking for someone who has excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a dedicated interest in human rights and social justice work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Researching and writing foundation grant proposals and reports
  • Working with Global Exchange staff to maintain and cultivate strong relationships with foundations
  • Working with the director of development, management and program staff to develop effective strategies for approaching foundations and other fundraising strategies
  • Post-proposal and post-grant follow-up
  • Maintaining calendar of foundation grant and report deadlines
  • Arranging/attending meetings with foundation representatives as appropriate
  • Working with program staff to develop effective proposals and reports
  • Working with management and program staff to formulate budgets
  • Motivating staff and board to participate in fundraising
  • Seeking new funding sources
This is a part-time (50%) position with the potential to grow to full-time, competitive salary DOE with benefits. While some hours must be carried out at the Global Exchange office, it is not expected that all hours will be spent at Global Exchange.
