Guantanamo, Torture And The U.S Constitution; Why All Americans Should Care
Thousand Oaks Library 1401 E. Janss Road Thousand Oaks, California Local lawyer Michael Rapkin will describe his experiences representing a prisoner who was tortured and indefinitely detained in Guantanamo Bay Prison. Mr. Rapkin will discuss his reasons for volunteering his time on behalf of upholding the U.S Constitution and the rule of law. He will explain why all Americans should care about our government policies in Guantanamo. A Los Angeles lawyer for 33 years, Michael Rapkin recently retired from his real estate and insurance law practice in order to perform full time volunteer legal work in the areas of civil liberties and homelessness. Mr. Rapkin has served as a member of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association's Board of a Trustees, a Traffic Court judge and a small Claims Court Judge. A member of the ACLU Board of Directors, he is a frequent speaker on habeas corpus, torture and restoring the rule of law under the U.S Constitution. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.
