GLOBAL EXCHANGE VENTURA COUNTY SUPPORTERS present: Professor Tohidi speaking on "The Women's Movement, Islam, and Democracy in Iran"

The speaker will be Nayereh Tohidi, Chair of the Gender and Women's Studies Department at California State University, Northridge.
Nayereh Tohidi is a Research Associate for Near Eastern Studies at UCLA. Her books include Globalization, Religion and Gender:The Politics of Women's Rights in Catholic and Muslim Contexts, and, Women in Muslim Society:Diversity Within Unity. Tohidi is a consultant to the United Nations and the media on women, gender, and human rights in Islamic societies.
This program is the second in a series on Afghanistan, Iran, and Kurdistan. In August, Afghan filmmaker Meena Nanji will show and discuss her documentary about women in Afghanistan,"View from a Grain of Sand." And in September, photojournalist, author and filmmaker Kevin McKiernan will speak about his experiences in Kurdistan.
