Joe Wheeler speaks to Redwood Seniors for Peace

Mill Valley, California

Joe Wheeler served in he Army for three years from 2001-2004. He spent eight months in Iraq during the beginning of the war (March 2003 - November 2003).

Joe was stationed in Tikrit and Baquabah (near Bagdad). His daughter was born just days before he left for Iraq. While in the Army and in Iraq he worked as a surgical assistant helping both US soldiers and Iraqi combatants. Since his discharge from the Army he has struggled with the effects of PTSD. This is a common occurrence among medical personnel who serve in war zones.

Joe has spoken at many large events (of 100-1000 attendees) and has been interviewed by print media and television stations.

Joe says "I have made an effort to speak out against the war as much as possible since my return. I feel an obligation to my fellow soldiers who are not allowed to voice dissent. As a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War it is a privilege to help put and end to this war."
