Venezuela Puts off US Airline Cuts

Caracas, Mar 30 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela informed Thursday that it is putting off until April 25 the application of a measure to cut the number of flights by US airlines. The measure is in response to US restrictions on Venezuelan airlines.

The Venezuelan Infrastructure Ministry recalled the suspension of flights by several US airlines to the country should have started today, but was deferred as agreed in recent bilateral talks.

Venezuelan authorities had announced by the end of February they were forced to take the restraining measure after a year-long disagreement caused by US restrictions on Venezuelan airlines in the former.

The US government had been banning flights by Venezuelan airlines alleging unsafe conditions, despite positive inspections by the International Civil Aeronautics Organization.

After Venezuela announced cutting US flights in return, a delegation from the US Federal Aviation travelled to Caracas to begin negotiations with Venezuela´s National Civil Aeronautics Institute.

This week´s talks have shown willingness to find solutions benefiting aero-trade relations between the two sides, the ministerial note indicates.
