Cartels within Mexico are able to amass profits and power because of the high price and high demand of their products within the United States. By working with policy makers to advocate for selective legalization, decriminalization, and harm reduction models, we can reduce the high economic gain from distribution of drugs.
We have partnered with the U.S. based, Drug Policy Alliance [1] as well as their Mexican counterpart the Colectivo por una política integral hacia las drogas (CUPIHD) [2] to bring the debate about drug policy reform into the center of the conversation about how to develop a comprehensive, common sense, and long term approach to confronting the violence in Mexico.
