Potluck dinner followed by a slide show and presentation of the current situation in Israel and Palestine from a young neighbor that has been there as a guest of a group of Palestinian Christians living in the Holy Land.
Kenny Walter is a 25-year-old Sonoma resident where he manages El Dorado Hotel. He recently returned from a Sabeel witness trip to Israel and Palestine. Sabeel is an international peace movement initiated by Palestinian Christians in the Holy Land. In this trip Kenny was able to witness first hand the tragedy of this long conflict and the best efforts he has seen to bring a peaceful solution to this confrontation.
Israel/Palestine: A Report
What is really happening today in Israel and Palestine?
What is the US role in Israel and how is it impacting the situation on the ground?
Kenny’s presentation will include slides that graphically depict the current realities of day-to-day life for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Amplifying the voices of Palestinian Christians, Sabeel started as a call to other churches to work together in finding peace and justice for Palestinians and Israelis through education and non-violence. Sabeel is an ecumenical liberation theology movement founded by Palestinian Christians in the Holy Land.
In order for peace to be possible in the region, it is critical to understand both the problems and the injustices that stand in the way of peace. This presentation will be followed by discussion and a constructive exchange of ideas.
Cost: Suggested Donation $20 (free to students) and dish to share if attending potluck.
