Dr. Nafisa Abdullah was born and raised in Kabul. She earned her medical degree at Kabul University in 1968 and traveled to the United States the next year. In a series of internships, residencies and more advanced assignments, she became a recognized specialist in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.
Not content with watching from the sidelines as the women and children of Afghanistan suffered innocently as fighting raged throughout her country, she signed up with Emergency USA, the US branch of an Italian humanitarian organization. Largely under their aegis, Dr. Abdullah has made numerous trips to Afghanistan since the US invasion, where she has shared her skills in hospitals throughout the country – not only Kabul, but in provincial outposts like Panj Sheer and Mazare Sharief.
Dr. Abdullah is now a member of the board of directors of Emergency USA and an active volunteer and spokesperson for its Los Angeles Chapter. She has been a tireless witness and advocate for the medical problems of her country.
This program is co-sponsored by the Marin Chapter of the United Nations Association.
