Local Clean Energy Program
Global Exchange's Local Clean Energy Campaign works to accelerate community-based solar power, wind power, and other clean renewable energy technologies and the green jobs they generate. We work to help enact policies that bring greater local control, democracy, and incentives for clean power.
In 2010 Global Exchange joined other environmental and social justice groups in a critical effort to stop California Proposition 23. Prop 23 was an oil industry-backed ballot initiative that would have undermined California’s cutting-edge carbon emission reduction goals and fledgling renewable energy sector. If passed, it would have been a major setback to national and international efforts to address climate change; but we mobilized and defeated Prop 23!
Ongoing, we are advocating for Community Choice Energy and Renewable Power Payments to catalyze the wide-spread implementation of local clean power and the healthier economy we need. Global Exchange continues to promote social equity in energy policy debates where such issues often take a back seat.
