Global Exchange's Fall/Spring Semester Study Abroad in Mérida, Venezuela is a 15-week academic program designed to increase students' knowledge of contemporary Venezuelan society and build bridges between advocates of social justice in the global North and like-minded activists in Latin America.
The program is built around intensive Spanish language training; courses focused on Venezuelan social movements, history, and culture; and exchanges with community leaders involved in social change on the ground. Program Highlights:
- Study Venezuelan social movements and the complexities of Venezuelan history and culture at the prestigious University of the Andes in Merida.
- Learn Spanish or improve your fluency with experienced professors based in communicative language methods.
- Live with a Venezuelan family and experience first-hand Venezuelan culture.
- Visit and dialogue with labor activists, women's organizations, and community leaders creating social change from the ground up.

How to Register:
All applicants must meet the following criteria:
- be in good academic standing and have at least a 2.5 GPA upon enrollment in the program.
- have taken at leat 2 semesters of college level Spanish or its equivalent.
- be at least 18 years old.
Application Steps - Schedule a meeting with your study abroad and/or academic adviser to guarantee recognition of the credits you will be earning while abroad. Download the Study Abroad Overview to take with you to this meeting and complete the Participant Approval Form with your advisor's signature.
- After receiving approval to participate in the program, download the Application Form Study Abraod Application and submit it to Global Exchange by June 15th for the Fall program and November 15th for the Spring program. A $30 non-refundable application fee is required for all candidates.
- Upon receipt of the application and payment of the application fee, your application will be reviewed and you may be contacted by Global Exchange for a phone interview.
- If accepted into the program, a letter outlining your offer and the next steps that need to be taken will be sent. All outstanding documentation and a non-refundable down payment of $400 will be due to ensure your spot in the program. Final payment is due August 1st for the Fall program and January 1st for the Spring program.
