Haiti : Fact-Finding Delegation - APRIL TBA
January 14, 2004
- January 23, 2004
The year 2004 is a special year for Haiti and a time when it should get the positive attention it deserves. This county, which celebrated its bicentennial in January, is very proud of its legacy as the first black republic in the world. It has struggled to survive despite major economic and political pressure from the US including the US backed coup d' etat that ousted President Aristide in 1994.
Yet this is a country is in a state of turmoil due to a small yet aggressive US backed opposition that is calling for the overthrow of democratically elected Jean-Bertrand Ariside. Not only is the US government playing an important role in funding the opposition, but also the mainstream media is doing its part to misreport about the current political tensions in the country.
On this serious fact-find delegation, we will attempt to examine the complexities of the politics, history and economic situation in a country that is overwhelmingly in support of its own democracy.
Join us in April to see for yourself what's going on, stand in solidarity with the Haitian people and return home to educate friends and family and pressure your represent ivies to give Haiti a fair chance.
