India : Globalization and Socioeconomic alternatives

March 03, 2009 - March 17, 2009

Travel through northern India on this new tour that includes visits to highly successful people-based economic projects as well as stunning architectural and historical sites. Your exposure to sophisticated urban life to the dynamism of ordinary Indians in rural areas will give you a much more complete picture of this complex country than most Western stereotypes suggest.

We will spend several days at the world-famous Vandana Shiva Center north of Delhi, and meet with Dr. Shiva, one of the pioneers of people-based economic and social models. A physicist by profession, Dr. Shiva's many books about successful challenges to corporate domination of agriculture and the seeds of life have won her global recognition and praise.

We will visit the state of Rajasthanto to enjoy the architectural marvels in Udaipur and Jaipur, as well as to experience the inspiring work of non-profit, community-based organizations like Aajeevika. This two-week trip to India will be rounded out by visits to the major sites in New Delhi, including those dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi and, the jewel in the crown, the fabled Taj Mahal.

Program Highlights:
