Vietnam (Viet Nam) : Women: tradition and enterprise

April 10, 2009 - April 23, 2009

Travel to Vietnam with Global Exchange and learn, first hand, Vietnamese women's aspirations and their social and economic worlds.

What did this mean in the past and what does it hold in the future?

What role do Vietnamese women have, given traditional constraints and now burgeoning opportunities for girls through equal education and opportunities?

The emphasis of this tour will explore how Vietnamese women were empowered by wars, when men were absent and how this resulted in their dynamic participation in the 21st century economy.
Women do the heavy lifting: construction, road building, garbage collection, street cleaning. Vietnam is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia and with such rapid development; we will learn how women have been incorporated into the global economy, particularly in manufacturing, agriculture and commerce, much of it carried out by women.
We will look at the changing social structure in Vietnam and how gender plays an important role since almost all women work and run households as well.
We will also examine how such relationships are affected by capitalism, globalization and multi-national investment in the country.
Meet and get to know Vietnamese people with the Global Exchange delegation to Vietnam - from Ha Noi in the north, to Hué in the center and Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Sai Gon) in the south.
Early arrival or later departure is fine - and our excellent Vietnam tour operator can help make additional arrangements for individuals.
