Chiapas Trip Leaders
Jutta Meier-Wiedenbach is a peace and justice activist and photographer with over four years years of experience in Chiapas, Mexico. She coordinated peace camps, and worked in the analysis, media, and public outreach department for the Fray Bartólome de Las Casas Human Rights Center and in that capacity received numerous Global Exchange delegations and volunteers to introduce the human rights situation in Chiapas to them. Aside from her contributions to many human rights publications by the Fray Bartolome Center, she published a collection of photographs from the indigenous communities in Chiapas. Currently Jutta is volunteering with the women's organization Yach'il Antzetic that works to empower single mothers and single pregnant women to live independently and in solidarity with each other, and to transform the situation of exclusion and marginalization of women from indigenous communities and low-income barrios in the city of San Cristobal. Prior to this she coordinated the Fellowship of Reconciliation's Colombia program, coordinating human rights observers in a Colombian Peace Community and leading delegations to visit Peace Communities and learn about peace and justice activism in Colombia. In 2001 she coordinated the Peace Brigades International Mexico Project.
