Day 1: Tehran Arrivals, airport pick-up and transfer to Ferdowsi Hotel
Day 2: Tehran Late morning orientation meeting, followed by a tour of Tehran's museums. Visit the Archaeological Museum, the glass and ceramics collection at Abguineh, and the State's Jewels Museum which is housed in the Central Bank of Iran. Lunch will be held at the Ferdowsi Hotel Restaurant. The group will also be given time to exchange money and shop for manteaus for women
Day 3: Tehran A full-day tour of Tehran, including the Qajar-period Golestan Palace/Museum Complex dating from the 18th to the early 20th centuries, and the historical Carpet Museum.
Day 4: Tehran to Yazd Transfer to the domestic airport for flight to Yazd, check-in and lunch at the Yazd Mosdhir Garden Hotel. Then enjoy an afternoon tour of Yazd including the Amir Chahkmagh Square, the Water Museum, and the Bazaar. Participants can choose between visiting a carpet store and workshop or further exploring Yazd with the trip leader.
Day 5: Yazd A full day of sightseeing in Yazd, the center for Iran's small Zoroastrian community. Upon availability, meet and speak with members of the Zoroastrian community. Visit one of the two 17th century Zoroastrian Towers of Silence, until recently used for disposing of the dead; and also see the Zoroastrian Fire Temple, whose fire has been burning for 1500 years. Also see the Friday Mosque (with the highest portal and minarets in Iran), the Seljuk Shrine dedicated to the 12 Shi'ite Imams, the Ziaieyeh Theological School, and the Dowlat-Abad Garden.
Day 6: Yazd to Shiraz All day drive to Shiraz, with a stop in the desert town Abarkuh for tea under a 4,000 year old Cypress tree.
Day 7: Shiraz Full day tour of Shiraz including visits to the Eram Garden, the tomb of the great lyric poets Hafez and Sa'adi; the pink-tiled 19th century Nasir-ol-Molk Mosque; the Arg-e-Karim Khan citadel; Visit the Madrassa Khan Theological School for interaction with teachers and students; the Qajar-period Narenjestan Garden/House; the Vakil Bazaar of Shiraz; and the Holy Shrine of Shah-e-Cheragh. Participants will have the option of walking through the bazaar with the trip leader.
Day 8: Shiraz Excursion to Persopolis Full day excursion to Perspolis, the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid kings. Visit the ruins of the palaces of Darius the Great, Xerxes and Artaxerxes, as well as the Ka'be-Zardosht fire temple/sanctuary, the Royal Tombs, and several Sassanian rock-reliefs.
Day 9: Shiraz to Isfahan All day drive to Isfahan, stopping enroute at Pasargadae, the site of the tomb and ruins of the palaces of Cyrus the Great, the founder of the Persian Empire. Also visit an old Safavid Caravanserai.
Day 10: Isfahan Full day tour of Isfahan, the 17th century Safavid capital. Visit the famous bridges of Sharestan/Khajou/Sio-se-pol; the Cathedral of Vank in the Armenian quarter; and the grand Maidan-e-Naghsh-e-Jahan square which houses a palace and two impressive mosques. Finish with a visit to the Qeisarieh Bazaar.
Day 11: Isfahan Another full day of sightseeing including the Friday Mosque, considered a museum of a thousand years of Persian architecture. Also visit the Harun-e-Valayat Shrine, the Ali Minaret, and the 17th century Sotun Palace. Finish with a stop at the 1670 Hasht Behesht Pavilion, otherwise known as the Pavilion of the Eight Paradises or the Palace of the Nightingales.
Day 12: Isfahan A short excursion to visit the Atashgah Fire Temple, the Menar Jonban "Shaking Minarets," the Marbin Bridge, and the newly restored Hammam-e-Aliqoli Khan, which now houses an ethnographic museum displaying the customs and rituals of traditional bath houses. Upon availability, meet with Grand Ayatollah Imami Kashani. Return to the Maidan for walking and interaction with locals, for whom the Maidan is a favorite Friday evening destination.
Day 13: Isfahan to Tehran All day drive to Tehran. First stop at the ancient village of Abyaneh, then continue to Kashan for lunch and a visit to the historical garden of Fin. On the way back to Tehran, drive by the Mausoleum of Imam Khomeini.
Day 14: Tehran Morning visit to the Sa'ad Abad Complex to see the Green and White palaces of the former Pahlavi kings. Lunch at a traditional restaurant at Darband. The afternoon is free for last minute shopping or leisure before the farewell dinner.
Day 15: Departure from Tehran Transfer to airport for departure flights.
Note: All meetings are tentative. However, upon availability and based on political circumstances, Pasargad will try to arrange visits to a high school classroom and a Jewish Synagogue, but please understand that these meetings depend on the political climate and for this reason are not included in the sample itinerary.
