Cuba: Development & Active Lifestyles

Country:
Cuba
Dates:
June 2, 2012June 13, 2012

Experienced trail runner Peter Haney, in conjunction with Global Exchange Reality Tours, invites you to join him for an educational and cultural exchange to Cuba. This unique delegation will be comprised of other active adults looking for a special way to learn about Cuba first-hand while also having daily options for exploring the beautiful geography of the island by biking and trail running.

Peter has twice collaborated with Global Exchange on two other educational athletic-focused delegations to Cuba. You can also read an excellent article by Robert McAndrews, who co-organized with Peter the tour in 2002.

This twelve day delegation, the third created and facilitated by Peter, promises an itinerary rich in lectures and discussions with a diverse pool of Cuban nationals, and site visits to important sustainable and community development projects. You will experience the flavor of Cuba from many different perspectives and have an opportunity to visit parts of Cuba rarely seen by outsiders, especially as you enjoy optional moderate bike riding through parts of Cuba and morning trail running in several foothill areas in Cuban mountains as we travel from Havana through to Holguin, on the eastern end of the Island. Trail runs and bike rides will be tailored to the individual and group needs and interests, as transport for the group the whole time is provided by air conditioned motor coach. We will thus accommodate people at all levels of fitness and capabilities.

This is your opportunity to visit Cuba legally at a grassroots level before tourism becomes more and more open for the US market and areas of Cuba flooded with more visitors. This trip is possible because of the deep relationships that Global Exchange has cultivated in its 22 years organizing educational and cultural immersion Reality Tours to  Cuba. Global Exchange is a licensed Travel Service Provider and only sends individuals to Cuba legally.

Our Cuban guides are experience, bilingual leaders who are committed to optimizing our daily exposure to the Cuban people and their culture. Participants do not need to speak Spanish.
