Brief Biography of Mr. SURESH KUMAR, Global Exchange Kerala Reality Tour Leader:
Suresh speaks English, Malayalam and Hindi. He has an MA in Politics and International Relations from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala.
For the last 10 years he has worked as an independent researcher. From 2004 January onwards he has worked as a Senior Research Associate in a project in a National Institute in Trivandrum, the capital city of the Indian state of Kerala. His responsibilities include research, coordination, event management, administration and facilitation of awareness programmes. Before joining this project he worked as a Research Coordinator in a United Nations Development Program (UNDP) project. During that time he did planning, management and coordination of the project for preparing a Human Development Report of a village in Kerala state. He also conducted workshops and seminars. He taught classes for volunteers and women's self-help groups on a regular basis and coordinated a project-related survey in about 7,000 households and in 224 women's self-help groups. As a resource person, Suresh prepared various types of training modules and taught extensive classes for the members of self-help groups (SHGs). He also provided technical support to these women's self-help groups for starting several micro-level enterprises. Before joining this UNDP project he worked as a Research Coordinator in an NGO working in public health issues in Trivandrum. In that NGO his responsibilities included coordination of projects, research and other academic activities and documentation. As a part of the job he did 15 field studies in different parts of Kerala State. Suresh also organized several workshops and seminars related to public health issues during that period.
Foreign Experience: 2 years teaching experience in Malé, Republic of Maldives.
Other teaching experience: 3 years teaching experience in degree classes as Lecturer in Political science in a University centre in Kerala.
Other activities: Actively involving in Left political activities. Also associated with several social activities like Literacy movement, Library movement, Kerala People's Science Movement (KSSP) and Decentralization Movement (People's Plan Campaign) in Kerala state of India. As the elected student leader (General Secretary) of the Students' Union of the University, he organized several social, cultural, environmental, arts and sports programmes during his Post Graduate education. He also participated in a number of national and international seminars and workshops.
