More details about each destination: South Africa:
This April, South Africa celebrates 10 years of freedom. It was in 1994 that apartheid officially ended and the nation's hero; Nelson Mandela became the first democratically elected leader of South Africa. It's been an exciting and challenging ten years for this country that has reinvented itself. Many strides have been made and yet many challenges remain. Economic apartheid is still very much a reality in South Africa and housing and unemployment are the number one concerns. Now, AIDS hovers above all else as major crisis that the country wrestles with everyday. Finally in November 2003 President Thabo Mbeki announced the plans for a countrywide treatment program that was rolled out at the beginning of the year. This was after much criticism that he was not taking the AIDS crisis seriously and in fact was moving backwards in the struggle against the virus and its stigma. On this delegation you will discuss the AIDS pandemic from a legal standpoint. You will also visit the unique Constitutional Court and meet with some of South Africa's most renowned judges. As part of the South African portion of the tour you will also visit the Kingdom of Bafokeng, just outside of Johannesburg.

Botswana
Botswana is one of the wealthiest countries in Africa, mainly because of its large diamond mines and its small population. But despite its wealth Botswana still faces many concerns around poverty, and AIDS is the number one concern in Botswana as it has one of the largest per capita rate of infection in the world. As far as the country's legal realm, Botswana has gone through many recent changes in regards to rights of women in Botswana, especially the right of citizenship and land rights. Intellectual property rights are also a hot topic in Botswana at the moment. Both of the CLE's in Botswana will focus on these two issues -- women's rights and the law in Botswana today and intellectual property rights. You will also get a chance to meet with the US Ambassador and learn about the current issues Botswana faces today.
Botswana is also home to some of the most beautiful landscapes and rich wildlife and we will get a chance to witness it:

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe:
World-famous Victoria Falls is Zimbabwe's contribution to the world's great attractions. The falls measure a whopping 1.7km (1mi) wide and drop between 90m and 107m (300-350ft) into the Zambezi Gorge. An average of 550,000 cubic metres of water plummet over the edge every minute, but during the flood stage from March to May, up to 5 million cubic metres per minute pass over the falls.
Victoria Falls town was built on tourism and has now developed into an archetypal tourist town. Fortunately, the star attraction is safely cordoned off by a real jungle of its own creation. To walk along the paths through the spray-generated rainforests that flank the gorge, you'd never suspect the existence of anything other than the monumental waterfall that's giving you such a good soaking.
