Human rights group stops by Watsonville

Santa Cruz Sentinel

Sentinel Staff Report
WATSONVILLE — Fourteen interns and staff members from the human rights group Global Exchange made a stop in Watsonville on Friday to learn about issues surrounding agriculture.

The participants are spending three days on the Central Coast as part of the San Francisco-based group's "From Farm to Fork" tour.

"The main focus of this tour is just for people to connect with these (agricultural) communities," said Claudia Rodriguez, youth leadership coordinator for Global Exchange.

The group visited the United Farm Workers union on Main Street and the Brown Berets office before heading to Salinas.

"It would be great to see how people are doing across the country and see if there are any similarities or differences and what I can take back with me," said Nina Fixwell of New York who is making the tour.

The trip concludes Sunday with a visit to the UC Santa Cruz's agriculture program.
